Kö-Bogen II in Düsseldorf is an outstanding example of sustainable and innovative architecture in an urban setting. This commercial and office building attracts everyone's attention with its impressive green façade, the largest in Europe. The sloping façades are stepped and linearly planted with plant troughs containing hornbeam hedges.

This unique design with over 30,000 plants stretches in a row over a total length of 8 kilometers. The hornbeam hedges not only offer aesthetic appeal, but also considerable ecological benefits. The contribution of these hedges to improving the climate in and around the building is equivalent to that of around 80 mature deciduous trees.

The greenery has a positive effect on the urban microclimate, which is particularly beneficial in densely built-up inner cities. The hornbeam hedges contribute to cooling the building and the surrounding area through transpiration and shade formation, bind fine dust, reduce CO2 emissions and provide a habitat for numerous insects and birds, which promotes biodiversity in the city.

With the Kö-Bogen II, Düsseldorf has gained an architectural highlight that shows how modern buildings can be designed to be sustainable and environmentally friendly. This project is an example of how striking architecture and ecological responsibility can go hand in hand.
